Prime CS assures of education overhaul, delivers Ksh20Million cheque to revamp education in Malava

The Prime Cabinet Secretary (CS) Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed government commitment in changing the education sector by taking it to another level.

Speaking when he met a delegation of over 4,000 teachers based in Malava at Friends Tande secondary school grounds, Mudavadi hailed the country’s leadership for working around the clock to achieve the huge milestone in education, efforts that has been a mirage and assured teachers that education was soon to be taken to another professional level.

Mudavadi also said Kenya has finally met the global based standard which requires each country to allocate 25% of its entire budget towards education.

The Prime CS also issued out a Ksh20 Million cheque to the Malava education office to upgrade and improve some of the schools which have been under facilitated in order to revamp education in the area.

He also challenged teachers to be accountable of the resources government was injecting in their respective institutions to avoid wastage of the resources.

The Malava constituency, in Kakamega county engagement with teachers follows a recent delegation of school mangers and other education stakeholders who paid him a courtesy call and presented some of the grievances schools from within were facing.

Mudavadi said their discussion centered on the need to improve infrastructure in several institutions, including the newly elevated Shamberere National polytechnic (Tuition Block), Manyonje secondary school (laboratory), Matioli secondary school (administration block), Tande secondary school (classrooms), and a complete overhaul of Matsakha secondary school, among others.

The school managers also highlighted the pressing need for additional classrooms in Chevoso, Ingavira, Lurale, and Shivikhwa comprehensive schools, the construction of an ICT Centre at Lunyu comprehensive school, and an administration block at Muriola comprehensive school.

Musalia stated that teachers are the stewards of knowledge, conscience, and societal values and hence had agreed to work in close collaboration to uplift education standards, improve learning environments, and enhance the well-being of both the young and elderly populations of Malava, and indeed the broader Western Kenya region.

“This open and honest dialogue allows us government to know where we are and what should be done to get where we want and we take your sentiments, proposals and even criticism very seriously as you are the people who hold the future of this nation in your hands, its either together, we make it or we fall apart we break it too” he said.

He further reaffirmed that the ongoing national wide education reforms was to ensure that no Kenyan child will be left or denied an opportunity to access education from whichever part of the country they are residing since government was pushing to strengthen and better learning environments, teacher welfare, and student success across the 47 counties.

The principal secretary state department of basic education Ambassador Professor Julius Bitok, concurred with Prime cabinet secretary that Kenya had made irreversible strides towards attaining its desired education reforms meant to ease and make learning enjoyable.

“We are here to assure you that the government is working around the clock to facelift our learning environments through infrastructure development as you can see the cheque and also for the employment of 76,000 within two years it took power and further targeting the mark to hit 100,000 in the coming few months” he assured.
