Former Alego/Usonga Member of Parliament Mr. George Muluan has said that junior secondary education should be incorporated in primary schools to save resources.
Speaking to Education News, Muluan argued that it wasn’t wise to spend over Shs 10 billion to construct more classrooms, which might not even be enough.
‘The classrooms currently being used to house standard 7 and 8 pupils in primary schools should be used to host grade 7 and 8 pupils in junior secondary education,’ he said.
He further pointed out that with the government policy on 100% transition, there might not be enough classrooms to house the junior secondary school students in the existing secondary schools in the country.
‘The 100% transition policy will bring lots of congestion in the existing secondary schools and that might not provide a proper learning environment for the Kenyan children,’ he said.
The former MP, who is seeking to oust the current MP for Alego/Usonga Samuel Atandi during the forthcoming general elections, faulted the current pattern of distributing bursaries in the constituency.
‘When I was the MP, the NG-CDF bursaries would be disbursed twice a year at a rate of Shs 5,000 for day scholars. The current regime only issues Shs 3,000 once a year.’ He said.
He further termed the Shs 3,000 as inadequate.
