Chebai Comprehensive Primary School in Marakwet West Sub-County has received a major boost in its learning infrastructure with the commissioning of a fully equipped modern science laboratory.
The new facility is expected to enhance practical learning and support the implementation of the Competency-Based Education CBE curriculum.
Funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NGCDF), the laboratory is tailored to provide learners with hands-on scientific experience, in line with national education standards.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Marakwet West Member of Parliament Timothy Kipchumba stated that the project is part of a broader strategy to bridge the learning infrastructure gap between rural and urban schools.

“To ensure that the Competency-Based Education effectively takes shape, we constructed this science laboratory at Chebai Comprehensive School,” he said. “This facility shall ensure that our learners have a level playing field with others across the country when it comes to embracing the new curriculum.”
Kipchumba emphasised that the shift to CBET requires strong infrastructural support to promote practical learning, problem-solving, and innovation, noting that his office has prioritised similar projects across the constituency to expedite the delivery of the new curriculum.
“We are delivering the plan. Transforming Marakwet West means investing in modern learning infrastructure and equipping our children with the requisite skills for the future,” Kipchumba added.
Education stakeholders present at the event lauded the initiative, noting that the laboratory will not only strengthen STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education but also improve learner performance and inspire careers in science and technology fields.
