Catholic priests in Etago Parish, Kisii County have put on notice Principals whose schools performed poorly in 2024 KCSE examinations.
While they praised some schools like St Linus Etago Girls’ that posted improved results they have threatened to eject some Principals in the sub county unless the County Education Board intervenes.
Led by Fr Benard Ndemo they promised to seek permission from Kisii Diocese Bishop Okemwa Mairura to allow them recommend transfer of some incompetent Principals from among the 22 secondary schools in the sub county.
They cited St Alphonce Nyabine DOK Secondary School where they intervened peacefully and recommended transfer of the Principal.
“Since he moved two years ago the school is now among the top performing institution in the region,” he said.

Saying that the Catholic Church uses a lot resources to supplement the government efforts to support education development, the priests asked teachers to avoid neglecting their duties because it leads to their disrespect and failure of their learners.
“Teachers are role models in society but when some of them mix with the old men and disgruntled youths to drink illicit brews in the villages, they abuse and lower the nobility of the teaching profession,” he said.
Dominic Gisembe, parent who accompanied the priests said that the area is endowed with good fertile land that supports agriculture from where parents get money to educate their children but regretted that this hard-earned cash will go to waste unless teachers and parents join hands to nurture the learners holistically.
He added: “Let our young teachers uphold professional ethics and distance themselves from indulging in evils which their learners copy because they think that anything that a teacher does is right,” he said.
He appealed to the Ministry to revert to delocalisation of teachers and focus on the unmarried ones to enable them to gain national exposure.
The parents appreciated the effort of the New Etago Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Rose Muthee for prioritising education among her development agenda and promised to give her maximum support for the prosperity of the sub county.
