Reverend Daniel Kamau Nderitu of Murang’a PCEA Parish has decried the decreasing number of children enrolling in schools in Central region and encouraged youth to embrace childbearing.

Rev. Nderitu encouraged the youth to shun birth control for the sake of the community.

While preaching during a burial in Murang’a, the Reverend noted that the data of children being presented for baptism and attending church-established schools was reducing at an alarming rate.

He pointed out that investments made by the Church and other stakeholders for early educational facilities were becoming under-utilized owing to the reduced enrolment of learners adding that most primary schools in the Mount Kenya region have fewer children in the lower primary section.

Rev. Nderitu further explained that religion mandates people to participate actively in procreation by rearing children.

He urged Murang’a residents to change the negative attitude towards huge numbers, saying that they were an important resource for the region and country.

The Minister also blamed the situation on changing lifestyles, decline in marriages, single parenthood, foreign culture, alcoholism and unemployment.
