President Ruto to open Sh1.2bn Tom Mboya University facilities as Homa Bay hosts Madaraka Day

President Ruto to officially open Shs. 1.2bn Tom Mboya Varsity modern facilities as Homa Bay hosts this year’s Madaraka Day.

Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has said that preparations for the County to host Madaraka Day celebrations this year are at their final stages.

“We are putting the final touches on the ground to receive our visitors, led by President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, ” she said.

The Governor said the President would use the opportunity to commission the second phase of the administration block and lecture halls at Tom Mboya University, which cost Shs1.2 billion to complete.

According to University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles O. Hola, completing the said facilities will be a big blessing because it will ease tutorial and other administrative operations at the University.

Governor Wanga said President Ruto is expected to open other completed projects in the region, including Madaraka Day celebrations and sanitation channels, which took Shs 1.3 billion and Shs 600 million to construct and rehabilitate, respectively.

She said that the commissioning of Homa Bay Pier will open job opportunities for the many qualified youths from the region who will work in the entertainment, tourism and hotel industry that will be enhanced by the opening of the facility, which will provide a smooth connection between Lake Victoria and its shores.

Wanga highlighted other upcoming projects that President Ruto will inspect, like improving road infrastructure and modernising Oginga Odinga and Homabay Stadium, which are direct results of the Broad-Based Government.

“President Ruto and his entourage are not coming to celebrate Madaraka Day as usual but to feel the real fruits of development caused by the formation of the inclusive government that values equitable distribution of resources in the country,” she said.

Homabay County Commissioner Moses Lelan said that preparations for the Madaraka Day celebrations, which will be held at Raila Odinga—Homabay stadium, had been completed and assured the public of good security.

“We welcome all Kenyans to Homa Bay for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations. It is a land of plenty, with fish and a variety of entertainment, ” he said.
