Teachers will now have guaranteed access to decent housing following the signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Affordable Housing Board and teachers’ unions at State House, Nairobi.
The agreement stipulates that 20 per cent of all Affordable Housing units across the country will be allocated to teachers. The move is part of the government’s broader housing agenda. It seeks to honour the contribution of educators who dedicate their lives to shaping Kenya’s future.

President William Ruto, who presided over the signing ceremony, hailed the deal as a milestone in both housing and education reform.
“Teachers are nation builders, and they deserve not only respect but also the dignity of decent homes. This commitment ensures that their service is matched with opportunity,” he said.
The deal is expected to ease the housing burden for thousands of teachers while boosting the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, a key pillar of President Ruto’s bottom-up economic transformation agenda.
