President William Ruto has dismissed claims that his administration intends to cut capitation funds for primary and secondary schools, insisting that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) remains fully funded ahead of the January 2026 transition.

Speaking during a church service at Covenant Church International in Rotian, Narok County, on Sunday, December 28, the President accused political opponents of spreading falsehoods and propaganda meant to mislead parents and learners. He warned those attempting to politicize education to “keep off” children’s schooling.

“There is no such thing as reduced capitation,” Ruto said. “All Kenyan children,1,130,000 in total, will join senior school in January. The government has already released KSh44 billion, and the money will be in schools before learners report back.”

The Head of State assured parents that preparations for the transition are complete, noting that no child will be denied a place in senior school. He outlined measures already taken, including the hiring of 100,000 teachers, the construction of 23,000 classrooms, and the ongoing completion of 1,600 laboratories expected by March 2026.

Ruto emphasised that each learner will receive KSh22,000 in capitation, with funds already disbursed to schools. He said this financial readiness demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition for the first cohort of CBC learners advancing to senior school.

“This is one of the most significant transitions in Kenya’s education system. Learners will be able to pursue structured pathways that prepare them for higher education and the workforce,” he said.

The President urged parents, educators, and leaders to support students during the transition instead of spreading misinformation. He reiterated that the government has made adequate arrangements to guarantee continuity in learning and warned against attempts to derail progress through partisan politics.
