President William Ruto has revealed that the Government will hire 20,000 teachers in January 2025 to address staffing gaps in schools.
Speaking during the Gold Award presentation to graduates of the President’s Award Kenya at State House in Nairobi on October 17, Ruto said that the recruitment of the teachers that had been halted earlier due to budgetary constraints will proceed now after his administration secured the necessary funds.
The President said that the current promotion of 46,000 intern teachers into permanent employment will address gaps in the education sector that have denied many children access to education.
“Our commitment to youth development stretches beyond the classroom to the intentional improvement of character, skills and talent. Our strategy extends to the creation of opportunities for employment, innovation and entrepreneurship,” he said.
Ruto noted that the education budget had been increased by Ksh127 billion over the past two years, allowing the government to allocate more resources for university and technical education under the new student-centered funding model.
