Power Learn Project (PLP) in partnership with Adanian Labs and Startup Business Campus is launching the 1MillionDevs4 Africa program in a bid to train one million software developers across Africa by 2027.

PLP in partnership with Startup Business Campus, one of South Africa’s leading entrepreneurial hubs, are looking to build a large talent pool that are ready to build local solutions that scale globally, support the local and global technology industry, provide employment for young people and solve local challenges.

“Startup Business Campus is excited to partner up with PLP on this high impact capacity building initiative; that seeks to unlock Africa’s digital economy and create opportunities for young people on the continent,” says Lucky Litela, Founder and CEO of Startup Business Campus.

Power Learn Project is a Pan African impact organization with a vision of driving transformative change for the youth in Africa by empowering them with relevant technology capacity through provision of quality, affordable and diffused technology training.

PLP also aims transferring skills, developing skills and enhancing technological capacity among the youth so as to curb the issue of unemployment and underdevelopment in Africa.

“Our goal is to drive transformative change for the youth of Africa through technology skilling. The program will also offer soft skills component in employability, enterprise and their mental well-being in order to enable the learners to be wholesome members of the community and to acquire entry level smart technology jobs,” says Mumbi Ndung’u, Chief, Growth and Operations Officer for Power Learn Project.

Mumbi Ndung’u also said the course will be covered on full scholarships since there is support from partners. The learners concern should be to learn and absorb as much as they can as they prepare to navigate the digital revolution.

The project also aims to kick start software careers with entry level, fully funded training using free data access and self-paced learning management over a period of sixteen weeks. The courses offered range from programming languages, block chain 101, data bases, data science and entrepreneurial skills. Learners will also have opportunities for practical experience through a proof of work module.

Certificates will be awarded upon completion of the course and learners will be able to join a community of young skilled Africans ready to take on digital opportunities. Leaners will also be equipped with life skills such as financial literacy and Health & well-being which will help them navigate the fast paced evolving world as productive members of the society.

“Upon completion of the course, learners will have access to a number of opportunities with organizations ranging from internships and proof of work opportunities,” stated Mumbi Ndung’u.

Launched in Kenya this year, PLP is looking forward to launch five pilot countries which are Zambia, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and Rwanda. North and West Africa are envisioned for phase two of the program. The scholarship program is officially accepting applications as of September, 1ST 2022.

“We are working towards the Pan African dream of building relevant capacity to extract value from the fourth industrial revolution. We invite our partners and especially our learners from across Africa, to join us on this journey of transformation,” says John Kamara, chairman of the Power Learn Project board.
