Poor academic qualification cited as reason for underdevelopment in Kilifi

Below average academic performance and inadequate competitive skills have been cited as the reason Kilifi County lags behind.

Imarika Sacco foundation chairman Renson Ndoro said the status quo has seen local residents constantly miss out on quality jobs hence pushing the County down the slopes of gaping poverty and marginalization.

Speaking during the issuance of Ksh 909,877 cheque to 40 beneficiaries of foundation’s scholarship program, Ndoro said the situation has made it virtually impossible for locals to convert the region’s valuable resources into maximum benefit.

One of the beneficiaries Kennedy Chonga described his schooling at Kolongoni Primary as full of hardships. He scored 353 marks and secured a place at Timbila secondary school.

Ndoro said the foundation is keen to help Kilifi County and the Coastal region which has been left behind in matters of sharing the nation’s major resources due to lack of competitive skills and qualifications from its people.

The Foundation’s Executive Director, Peter Angore, said already plans are underway to expand the scholarship not only to secondary school students but also to those willing to join Polytechnics and Technical Vocational Training Institutes for short term courses.

“After one finishes his/her studies, we shall link them to Imarika Sacco where they can get entrepreneurial education plus small loans to start up Small and Medium sized Enterprises for their upkeep,” concluded Angore.
