Pools for Nyanza Region School Games released

The pools for Nyanza Region Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) slated to take place next week at Cardinal Otunga High School in Kisii County are out.

In the draw released by Nyanza KSSSA secretary Tom Odhiambo after a meeting with stakeholders at Kisii School, and seen by Education News, Pool A is the tough one.

It consists of the reigning boys’ football defending champions Agoro Sare, former champions Kisumu Day,  Migori County champions Kodero Bara and Ong’icha from Kisii.

In the championships which will take place on July 9- 13, 2024, Pool B comprise Kisii champions Sameta High, Ambira High (Siaya), Matutu PAG (Kisii) and Tonga High from Homa Bay.

In the girls’ category, pool B has the reigning champions Nyakach Girls, Moremani, Nyambaria Geke and Hawinga.

Former champions Lwak Girls’ are in Pool A alongside Alara, Migori Education Centre and Nyabisase.

In volleyball, Pool A is the pool of death with Nyabondo from Kisumu, Gogo High, Etono, and Riokindo High set to bring their A game to the tournament.

Defending champions Sagegi, Nyabisia, Chianda and Onjiko School in Pool are in Pool B.

In girls’ category, the reigning champions Nyakach Girls’ headline Pool A with competitors Ogande Girls’, Kameji and Kiabigoria.

Three-time Kisii County champions Nyakembene face Ikonge, Koru and a representative from Siaya County — who will be determined after the hearing of an appeal lodged by Aluor Girls’ at the County Education Director.

They accuse Nyakongo of fielding an ineligible player during the sub-county games.

In netball, the champions Oyugi Ogango will face Lambwe, Omwari and representatives from Siaya County while favourites Nyakach Girls will battle Ayora from Kisii, Rirumi and Nyango.

The Siaya county representatives will be known after an appeal by Wagai against Kandaria is heard and determined, said Siaya KSSSA Secretary Omondi Obiero.

Basketball 3×3 draws Boys category Pool A consists of  Onjiko High, Homa Bay School, Ekenyoro, Pool ‘B’ Ambira, Kisii School, Migori Boys while Pool C has Agoro Sare, Maseno School, St Kizito Nyansiongo and Pool  D Nyanchwa Boys, Kanga High as well as Sawagongo

In girls’ category, Pool A has Ogande Girls, Barchando, Tuk Jowi. Pool B comprise Nyakach Girls, Kereri Girls, Sironga Girls. In Pool C we have Ng’iya Girls, St Albert’s Ulanda, Asumbi Girls while Pool D St Angelas Seng’era, St Barnabas and Manga Girls will battle it out.

Odhiambo however revealed that the rugby 7s draw will be done at the venue.
