291 youth have graduated from Meru Youth Service (MYS) after a three week intensive training at Igoji Training Centre in Imenti South Constituency, Meru County.

The graduates are set to join Meru National Polytechnic on 29th this month to undertake professional courses in a bid to impact them with marketable skills.

Presiding over the ceremony, governor Kawira Mwangaza said the graduates are fully reformed and expressed optimism that no one will go back to the street to beg or into drug abuse adding that her administration will do a follow up on all of them to make sure of that.

“After undergoing weeks of training, the recruits have graduated and are ready to join the world and showcase their skills and knowledge. The 291 graduates will be joining Meru National Polytechnic on the 29th of this month to undertake professional courses,” she said.

She added: “190 will train as professional guards, 67 as dairy farm managers while 34 will be trained as house managers in courses that are tailor-made to impact them effectively.”

Kawira urged them not to limit themselves but be focused and never look back from where they have come from in order to make their dreams come true.

She said that in a few weeks they will launch another recruitment drive and urged those who are willing to join to be on the lookout.

Her Deputy, Isaac Mutuma said the training will inevitably reduce crime rate in the area because the beneficiaries will be self-employed and engaged in other beneficial activities.

He said the training is a platform for the youth to know themselves and reignite their self-esteem before enrolling in different vocational colleges.
