Poly collaborates with Jua Kali Association to enhance skills

Jua Kali

The Eldoret National Polytechnic yesterday hosted the Head of Programmes and Linkages of Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Association (KNFJKA), Architect Nyamai Wambua and Richard Opar of Uasin Gishu County Jua Kali Association to discuss several areas of interest including collaboration.

During the meeting, areas which they were looking for in collaborations are Recognition of Prior Learning Programmes (RPL), innovations, applied research and Trade Fairs as well as Industrial Attachment and Dual Training.

KNFJKA is the umbrella organization representing the artisan and small manufacturers in the informal economic sector and is serving the primary Jua Kali Associations that are spread across the counties in Kenya.

The sector has artisans operating on different skills levels and has absorbed the majority of the start-ups, retrenches, retirees, school dropouts and unfortunate dismissals from the private sector companies and organisations.

Since its establishment back in 1992 it has prevailed as a source of employment for many people as at now it is the single largest employer in the country and a source of livelihood to many Kenyans.
