Aspirant Richard Kimiriny seeks the Narok KNUT Branch treasurer position ahead of upcoming union elections.

Incumbent officials are maintaining a strong lead across most positions in the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Narok Branch, according to an opinion poll conducted on Wednesday, barely a month before the branch elections scheduled for March 7.

The poll indicates solid support for the current leadership, with most incumbents commanding over 60 per cent of respondents’ backing, signalling continuity as the preferred choice among union members.

In the race for chairperson, incumbent Newton Koech leads with 63 per cent, ahead of challenger Lorna Chepkemoi, who has 37 per cent support.

The executive secretary contest shows an even wider margin, with incumbent Simiren Soyiantet polling 71 per cent, while sole challenger, Moses Kamakei, the current assistant executive secretary, trails at 29 per cent.

For the treasurer position, Richard Kimiriny leads with 64 per cent, compared to Wilson Tololo at 36 per cent.

Similarly, Women Representative Ann Saramei, the incumbent, leads Ann Bor by 64 per cent to 36 per cent.

In the vice chairperson contest, David Mantira leads with 71 per cent support, followed by Tajeu Kenka. Poll officials, however, noted that figures for this position are subject to verification due to a minor tabulation inconsistency.

Other key positions also show decisive margins. Henry Pasiany leads the Assistant Secretary race with 67 per cent, while Dan Mayone dominates the Assistant Treasurer contest with 71 per cent.

At the constituency level, BEC representatives show strong individual performances. In Mulot, Benuel Kemboi leads with 66 per cent. Leteipa Kiswaa posts the most commanding lead in Ololulunga with 79 per cent, while Rufas Nkoitoi tops the Mara race at 65 per cent.

Political analysts within the union note that the results reflect members’ satisfaction with the current administration’s handling of teachers’ welfare and labour negotiations. However, they caution that opinion polls are not definitive predictors and encourage members to participate fully in the upcoming election.

The KNUT Narok Branch elections will take place on March 7, 2026, with officials urging peaceful campaigns and high voter turnout.
