Politicians blamed for falling academic standards

By Ongondi Nyakundi

Politicians from Nyamira County have been put on the spot for the county’s deteriorating performance in national examinations.
An educational stakeholders meeting shifted blame to the political players for failing to adequately address the plight of the education sector in the county.
Not a single elected leader from the County attended the meeting, with County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru confirming that his office had invited all of them to grace the meeting whose agenda was to find out what is ailing education in the region.
County Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi is a member of the Parliamentary Education Committee but she never attended the forum which was termed as crucial.
During the forum that was conducted at Kebirigo Boys High School, teachers; parents churches; boards of school management and learners were all represented.
The blame against the leaders was leveled by the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association Chairman Andrew Gesora before the Director In charge of Co-ordination of Field Services with the Ministry of Education Chacha Mwita echoed the same remarks.
