Police in Machakos have dived into through investigation of a fire that rattled down a dormitory at Mumbuni girls’ secondary school yesterday evening, destroying students’ belongings.
According the reports, the fire broke out at around 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of a two-storey building that houses all female students. It consumed several beds, mattresses, blankets, boxes, and other personal belongings.
Luckily, the Machakos County firefighters responded quickly, containing the blaze before it could spread further.
Police officers from Machakos Police Station also arrived promptly to maintain order as worried parents and local residents attempted to enter the school to help with rescue efforts.

Machakos Deputy County Commissioner David Rotich confirmed the incident, adding that that no injuries were reported.
“A few students went into shock and were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment before returning to school.” He said.
Senior education officials, including County TSC Director Jimal Ahmed and County Director of Education Margaret Mwirigi, visited the school but declined to comment, citing an ongoing investigation into the cause of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains unclear; authorities reiterate that forensic is ongoing.
