A police officer is being investigated after he was caught on camera stealing money from KCSE invigilators in Kimulot High School in Konoin Constituency, Bomet County.

CCTV cameras dated December 5, 2022 show the officer emptying the bags of female invigilators who had left them in a special room to monitor the ongoing KCSE exams.

In the video that lasted 1:37 minutes, the officer can be seen in a uniform and an AK74 rifle removing what looks like money from the bags and putting it in his pockets. He thereafter returns the bags and walks out like nothing happened.

The invigilators were shocked when they found out they had lost money in a place that is highly secured. They lost Ksh 1300 and requested the school administration to review the CCTV cameras.

Bomet county police commandant Mathews Mangira said three victims have recorded statements on the issue and investigations have been launched.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Bomet Branch executive secretary Malel Langat demanded for the arrest of the officer who has lowered credibility of the service.

Langat said police should provide security in examination centers and not break the law by stealing from people they should be protecting.

884,263 candidates across the country are sitting the KCSE exams that began last month. The theory papers began on Friday December 2,2022.
