Police launch search for man who eloped with Form 1 student

Nyamira

Police in Kisii are looking for a man who is alleged to have eloped with a form one student and escaped on the way to the police station while being escorted by Nyumba Kumi operatives.

The boda boda man had kept the minor in his house for four days before he was discovered.

The mother of the girl sought the help of Nyumba Kumi elders, who launched a search yesterday around town and smoked the man out of his rented house with the young girl.

When he dodged them on the way and ran into hiding, the elders reported the matter to Kegogi Police Station, who began a new search.

Area Nyumba Kumi chairman Robert Omuko confirmed the incident and said that the girl was taken to the police station to assist them with information that may lead to the arrest of her accoster.

He blamed parents for leaving their daughters to wander freely during school holidays, promising nonetheless that his officers will work with the police, teachers and other community workers to ensure safety of children in the area.

He advised residents to immediately report to the police any suspicious person who might be bent on misleading young people.
