Police in Nyamira have launched investigations into the cause of the University student’s death at Kiong’ongi estate on the outskirts of Nyamira town.
According to the parent who spoke to Education News, Kerubo Ohanga explained how she thought her daughter was at Eldoret University, but was only called and told that she had been found dead on Monday morning.
“My daughter called me on the phone on Sunday and told me that she was well. Now I can’t believe she is no more,” said the tearful mother.
She described her daughter as a source of hope who encouraged her to lead a calm life after the demise of her husband in February this year.
Police preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased, Sheryl Ohanga, 20 years old, died from injuries she received after she fell from a tall building and was killed as she fell on the floor.
Sources revealed she attended an in-house party with her boyfriend and five other friends at a rental house.

During the merry-making process, her boyfriend received a phone call from another girlfriend, whom Sheryl suspected was her rival.
At that time, a quarrel ensued between the duos, leading to a bitter exchange of words.
“We stopped the party, but we don’t know what happened between them later,” said one of the five suspects.
Neighbours said that the victim was found lying unconscious on the floor and was rushed to Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital by unknown people, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. In contrast, others argued that she was taken dead to the hospital.
Her body was moved to the hospital’s mortuary for a postmortem to help with further police investigations.
A senior police officer from the County, who identified himself as Charles Mburu, said one suspect had been arrested and would be arraigned in court soon. The other five suspects had recorded statements and would be required to assist the police as witnesses during the case hearing.
