Migori County Police Commander Mark Wanjala has urged parents to enhance safety of their children over the short school holiday.
Wanjala warned parents against neglecting their children saying any laxity from them will not be taken lightly by the authorities.
“We want our children to be safe at home just like when they are in schools. This therefore should be a reminder and a warning to parents who are fond of not following up on the whereabouts of their children,” he said.
The police boss noted that most underage learners got into immoral behavior due to lack of proper guidance from guardians.
“Most parents have left their children unguided and unmonitored. This gives the children opportunity to start abusing drugs and other immoral behaviors like premarital sex leading to early pregnancies before they complete their studies,” he noted.
The Commander added that his office would ensure neglectful parents are dealt with according to the law.
He further reminded them to ensure that their children keep company that will add positive impact to their lives especially academically.
Wanjala however noted that cases of early pregnancies in schools and school dropouts had gone down in the county.
He encouraged parents to shun from blame games and instead take necessary precautions to ensure their children are safe, guided and taught good morals.
