Police in Kisii County have arrested a man for allegedly defiling his 8-year old daughter.
According to Kegati Sub-locational Assistant Chief Alex Nyakenywa, the mother of the toddler left her with the father on Thursday as she went to visit relatives.
Warning her not to tell anyone what he had done, the man raped the Grade 3 pupil and afterwards released her to go to school where her teacher noticed her abnormal mobility.
The teacher found out from her what had happened and immediately reported to the area chief.
“We reported the matter to the chief who launched a manhunt for the man,” said the Kegati Primary School female teacher.
The chief, with the help of police, found the suspect hiding in a neighbour’s latrine and took him to Keumbu Police Station to record a statement and be detained there.
Keumbu police officers identified the suspect as Charles Angwenyi, 43, who will appear in court on Monday to answer charges of defilement and child abuse.
Keumbu Community Policing chairman Salim Mosima cautioned mothers against leaving their children with their immoral husbands.
