Police arrest man after defiling his two nieces

Residents of Chirichiro in Nyaribari Chache Constituency of Kisii County are an angry lot after a man allegedly defiled his two nieces aged 5 and 8 years.

According to the girls’ aunt, Hellen Nyaboke, the suspect left a night funeral vigil and broke into their home in the absence of the parents.

“He broke the window and entered the room where the two minors were sleeping,” she reported.

Nyaboke said that the man defiled them at intervals as he threatened to kill them if they raised alarm and afterwards fled the village the same night.

Villagers took the abused girls to Keumbu Hospital where they were admitted for tests and treatment.

Their aunt reported the matter at Birongo Police Station where officers launched a manhunt immediately and arrested the suspect at his hideout, five kilometres away.

“My police officers acted with speed and arrested the suspect who is in our custody,” confirmed Police boss Benard Baplio.

He said that the suspect will be arraigned in court after investigations are done and urged the irate residents to maintain calmness and let the law take its course.

The residents decried the high rate of child defilement in the area attributing it to the rise in drug abuse especially illicit brews such as chang’aa.

They blamed laxity from Chiefs and their assistants, whom they claimed slept on their job.

“They arrest suspects and allow them to buy their freedom instead of arraigning them in Court,” lamented Samson Onchari, a resident.
