A form three student in Baringo South has been arrested over involvement in criminal activities, including a thread of robberies reported in Marigat town and its environs.

Paul Lesiapa Lememit, one of a four-member gang, was arrested by police at his house after police acted on a tip off and was allegedly nabbed with stolen loot including an AK-47 rifle and 5 rounds of ammunition in his house.

They also found several photos of Lesiapa posing with stolen items and cash in his phone.

Confirming the incident, Baringo County Commandant Julius Kiragu said the other three thugs among them a student were still at large.

“We were also able to see him via CCTV cameras robbing Marimat Supermarket last month. Shell petrol station and shops in Sandai and Koriema in Baringo South have also been affected. I urge the public to remain vigilant and report any of the suspicious characters,” he said.

Kiragu noted that Lesiapa will be charged with robbery with violence and possession of illegal firearms.

He added that the police are on high alert to curb rising cases of crime in the area and have already beefed up security.

Worsening insecurity in Baringo county has led to killing of people following cattle rustling in volatile borders.

Heightened tension has also led to closure of schools in the area being closed indefinitely after bandits reigned supreme.
