Plans underway to increase ECDE teachers’ salaries

Uasin Gishu county government has plans to increase the salaries of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in the region.

Speaking during the issuance of Shs 88.95 million for the development of ECDE centers, Governor Jackson Mandago said the move will ensure that the teachers are remunerated well since what they are currently earning is a drop in the ocean.

‘My government will take care of the welfare of ECDE teachers. We have agreed with the MCAs that the salaries of these teachers will be increased since they’re doing a good job.’ He added.

ECDE teachers in Uasin Gishu earn Shs 10,000 per month.

Mandago further called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to employ ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.

“TSC should step up and employ teachers on permanent and pensionable terms since county governments only do it on a contract basis,” he added.

Mandago further said that his administration has recorded an increment in ECDE pupil enrollment from 11,651 to 36,496.

“This has been brought by the County’s investment in ultra-modern child-friendly infrastructure as well as the construction of over 980 ECDE classrooms. We also employed and trained 1340 ECDE teachers on Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and added 18 coordinators representing various wards,” he said.

Mandago said he will ensure that water is provided to all schools across the County.

“All schools in the county will have enough water .This will ensure that students and pupils get clean water which will prevent them from being affected by water-borne diseases,” said Mandago.
