People who have acquired practical skills in their areas of specialization have been asked to join National Polytechnics to get certificate that will enable them get employment in both Public and public sector.
Simon Mburu, a head of department at Kisii National Polytechnic said that there are many qualified people with enough skills that they have applied for more than fifteen years but have never been recognized by the government through official certification.
“These people should be made aware that the government has liberated them and they can be recognized like any other person through formal education.” He said.
Mburu was addressing the public at Kisii town on the importance of technical education to their children.

He thanked the government for approving Kisii National Polytechnic to offer Certificates based on prior- learning for individuals and groups stating that the programme will assist many to get construction tenders in both National and County Governments.
The tutor said that it is unfair to bar people from access to the employment of their own choice because of lacking paper certificates when they have rich skills and experiences gained from practical involvement.
He said that Kisii National Polytechnic offers certification on recognition of Prior- learning skills in different disciplines ranging from carpentry, Mechanics housekeeping, tailoring and dress making and catering.

Other areas recognized are mixology, art and design and general agriculture.
He said that the Polytechnic held it first graduation of such group of people last year and have been absorbed in different sectors.
He asked the government to consider employing these unique graduates in the competitive employment market with their counterparts from the regular classes saying that they even. More competent because their qualifications and certifications are based on practical experiences.
