Parliament education committee lauds teachers for ending strike

Tinderet MP Julius Melly addressing residents.

The National Assembly Education Committee has lauded teachers for ending their strike, saying the dispute between them and TSC had taken a toll on students.

The Committee Chairperson Julius Melly said that their salary increase had been effected and medical cover restored, with funds being set aside for the confirmation of the 46,000 intern teachers.

Speaking in his Tinderet constituency recently, he said that as an advocate for teachers’ rights, he had been at the forefront in pushing for the fulfillment of their demands.

He then challenged teachers to serve diligently in order to recover lost time, adding that the needs of learners should be prioritized.

“As a defender of teachers and learners’ rights, I will ensure all their demands are met. We know a lot of time has been lost, therefore I would like to ask teachers to serve diligently in order to recover the time,” he said.
