Parents warned against procuring abortions for school girls

By Enock Okong’o

Parents have been discouraged from assisting their school girls to procure illegal abortion services.

Speaking during the marking of the World Safe Abortion day in Kisii town yesterday, human rights activist Esnas Nyaramba cautioned against abortion done by backstreet quacks adding that it frequently led to death or risked permanent impotence to the victims later in their lives.

Mrs. Nyaramba asked parents to instead counsel their girls who fall victim to teenage pregnancy to proceed until due and continue with their studies after giving birth.

The activist warned perverted men from preying on teenage school girls and instead treat them as if they were their own daughters.

“Those who lead our children to this undesirable actions are adults who do not think that they are also parents with children who need to be well taken care of until maturity,” she said.

She blamed unethical private medical practitioners for enabling the vice.

Further, the activist asked the police to mount a crack down on illegally operating medical clinics in Kisii county and arrest the  quack doctors.

Mrs. Nyaramba concluded by asking teenage girls to abstain from premarital sex to avoid contraction of  HIV/Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases.
