Parents in Nandi County have been encouraged to actively support and nurture their children’s talents as a pathway to employment creation and a long‑term solution to rising youth unemployment.
County MP Cynthia Muge said many gifted young people remain idle in villages because their abilities are neither recognized nor supported at home. She noted that early encouragement plays a critical role in helping children build confidence and turn their talents into sustainable careers.
“We have very talented young people in Nandi, but most of them are stuck in the villages because their parents do not fully support or understand their abilities,” Muge said, urging families to allow children to explore their potential from an early age.
The legislator spoke while inviting residents to the inaugural Nandi County Youth Festival, an event she said is designed to equip young people with knowledge on how to monetize their talents. She highlighted that 73% of the county’s population is below the age of 35, making youth empowerment a central development priority.
“This festival will address issues affecting our youths while opening doors to opportunities,” she said.

The two‑day forum, hosted at Koitalel Samoei University’s Mosoriot Campus, was officially opened by the Youth Affairs Principal Secretary, who assured participants that financial limitations would not hinder their involvement.
“Even those without funds will be considered and supported so that no youth is left behind,” the PS said.
During the festival, young entrepreneurs and technology innovators will be recognized on the first day, while artists and fashion designers will receive awards on the second day as part of efforts to celebrate and elevate youth talent across the county.
