Suna West Member of Parliament Hon Peter Francis Masara called on parents to ensure their children are focused on education and not distracted from academics by activities which may affect their performance or sway their morals.

Masara asked them to unanimously join efforts in the upbringing of children noting that most learners drop out of school due to lack of close monitoring by parents.

“I want to plead with parents to work closely with teachers in the nurturing and monitoring of change in character of their children. It is important to respond positively to advise from teachers since they spend more time with our children while at school where peers influence their character,” he said.

He was speaking at Nyamome Primary school where he commissioned classrooms whose construction was fully funded by the constituency’s NG-CDF.

“Every single project that was undertaken during my tenure has been successful due to the close and good working relationship I developed with the education stakeholders in this region. I value education as a way of changing the economy of a society hence my great input into the education of our children,” he said.

Hon. Masara further noted that the number of learners taking their studies within the constituency to completion had greatly improved in numbers attributing the positive change in attitude towards education to the increased learning institutions which have now reduced the distance covered by learners to access quality education.

“I’m glad that today most of our children are able to access basic education from primary to secondary schools within the constituency. We have worked in the past four years to upgrade the facilities within our secondary schools to ease time for teachers and to bring necessary learning resources to our learners. We currently have over 38015 students in secondary schools within the constituency,” he added.

He also applauded the management of the institution for smooth collaboration in the development of the institution.

Currently Suna West has a total of 85 schools within the constituency, 24 secondary and 61 primary schools with 19 of them started in the last five years by the MP.

Among the primary schools started during his tenure are Wuoth Ogik, John Okwanyo, Oruba Dip, Kipasi Songa, Jumbo, Kowiti memorial, St. Peters Nyamaranga, Magongo Bongu, Giribe Maseno, Nyahera, Got Kweru, Mariba, Pap Ndege and Ndemra primary schools while secondary schools include St. Celestino Nyangubo, Ragana and Wiga Girls among others.
