Parents have been urged to discourage their children from taking part in the planned Gen Z demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday, June 25.

Nakuru County Education Committee Chairperson Moses Malawi cautioned that the protests could turn violent, citing past incidents as a basis for concern.

Speaking to the press, Malawi noted that many learners are currently on half-term break and may be tempted to join the protests.

“Learners are currently on half-term break and may be tempted to join the protests. As parents we must be on high alert,” he said.

He emphasized that it is the responsibility of parents and guardians to monitor their children’s whereabouts and activities during the school holiday.

“As parents, we have a duty to protect our children. We must know where they are at all times and ensure they stay away from any potentially dangerous gatherings,” said Malawi, who is also a lecturer.

He stressed the importance of prioritizing children’s safety, urging young people to seek peaceful and constructive ways to express their views.

The planned protests are expected to mark one year since the killing of several Gen Z youth during anti-Finance Bill demonstrations.

Several trending hashtags have emerged, mobilizing thousands of youth to turn out in large numbers on June 25 to commemorate the Gen Z protesters who lost their lives, with some users floating the idea of marching toward and storming critical security installations, including Parliament and the State House.
