Parents urged to enroll their children in EduAfya medical cover

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has asked parents to register their secondary school children in the Ministry’s EduAfya comprehensive medical cover.

Keiyo North Sub-county Director of Education Mr William Kipchumba regretted that students did not utilize the over Ksh4 billion fund in the 2021/2022 financial year, attributing this to low enrollment of students into the insurance cover.

The education officer said that EduAfya is a comprehensive medical scheme for all public secondary school students covering all those captured in the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) and registered with NHIF.

“We call on parents to register their children on the NEMIS system managed by the MoE where the data is shared with the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) for registration,” requested Mr Kipchumba.

He was addressing AIC Kessup Girls Secondary School Annual General Meeting (AGM).

The medical scheme, he said, covers essential outpatient and inpatient medical treatment on a comprehensive basis within the country and even overseas.

Mr Kipchumba called on parents to pay their children’s school fees on time, adding that the ministry has continued to credit capitation funds to school accounts on time.

The Ministry pays Ksh.22,000 capitation fund per student in secondary school.

Thanking the outgoing Board for the sterling performance in the school over time, he asked parents to purchase extra books for their children.

“Motivate your children by buying them revision materials in order to supplement what they are taught in school,” said the education officer.
