Makueni County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Devolution and Special Programmes, Japheph Mang’oka, has urged parents to educate their children on the risks of drowning in rivers.
This comes in the wake of a recent tragic incident where a young boy lost his life during the rainy season.
During the commissioning of the Kwa Kitungu sand dam in River Kaiti, Wote town, Mang’oka stressed the importance of parents warning their children about the dangers associated with water masses.
The County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Urban Planning, Development, Environment, and Climate Change, Dr. Sonnia Nzilani added that the newly constructed sand dam, measuring about 100 meters in length, is one of the largest in the county.
“We will plant trees along riparian lands to alleviate water shortages in the region, benefiting approximately 1200 households and residents of Wote town,” Dr. Nzilani stated.
The sand dam boasts a capacity of 70,000 cubic meters, standing 3 meters high and stretching about 85 meters in length.
This proactive measure aims to secure a better future for the community by ensuring a more reliable water supply.
