Political leaders have urged parents to minimize their festive season’s expenditure bearing in mind demand for schools once schools reopen in January.

The leaders led by Suna West and Nyatike Members of Parliament lamented on trends of expenditure by parents during the December Christmas holiday.

Speaking to Education News at his Oruba home, Hon. Peter Francis Masara noted that with the change in the education calendar, parents are led to a situation whereby they have to minimize every little resource they have for payment of school fees.

“It is good to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with friends and families but I wish to plead with parents not to forget that we are a week away from the start of the next school term and are required to pay fees as well as provide for their children’s’ basic needs as they shall be heading back to school,” he said.

The legislator further echoed teachers for their impressive work and dedication towards ensuring they attend to their learners through teaching and guidance.

His sentiments were shared by his Nyatike counterpart Hon. Tom Odege who while speaking to the Education News reporter on phone, also called on parents to enhance child protection over the festive holiday.

Odege encouraged Nyatike residents to join efforts in ensuring children are not exposed to immoral characters and to help curb early pregnancy in bid to promote education standards in the area by ensuring every child attends and complete their education.

“Let’s celebrate responsibility in readiness for schools which are to reopen in January 2022 and also to ensure our children especially those within the school going age are safe from all forms of destruction,” noted Odege.

He warned parents to exercise caution on expenditure in readiness for reopening of schools next year.

The legislators have also called on students whom have attained the age of 18 years to apply for National Identity cards and also to register as voters taking advantage of the short holiday in readiness for the August 9th 2022 general elections.
