As candidates prepare to write their national examinations papers, a religious leader has called upon parents to accept the results posted by their children after examinations are done.
The religious leader Pastor, Duncan Makau, who happened to be a parent and the chief guest at a graduation ceremony for PP2 and Grade Three pupils at Makueni Sunrise Boarding and Day School Academy told parents that instead of discouraging children due to poor performance, they should give them some hope of doing better.
Discouraging them, he advised, may contribute to children committing suicide, hating the education process as well as becoming unruly in their schools.
Makau called upon parents to take care of their children by being close to them. He noted that many parents do not have time for their children and that they leave them in the hands of house helps.
“Even if we are working towards bettering the lives of our children, take time to monitor them, sit with them and be a friend to them and it will be easier to notice any behaviour change in them. They will even open up in case of anything bothering them,” Makau reminded the parents.
He remarked that parents will be answerable to God for those children who become spoilt in their hands without correcting them.
At the same time, the preacher encouraged candidates not to commit any examinations irregularities as it would lead to disqualifications.
“I highly insist on the fear of the Lord. Unless you do not fear the Lord now, in future you would not fear Him. Parents help your children in abiding by the laws of our Lord. Encourage them to trust in their work among other virtues and teachings of the Bible,” said Makau.
The School Director, Patricia Kilonzo said the school started in 2008 and that they have progressed well. She called upon parents to give children what is required of them but avoid over providing.
She said children should be taught house chores which will keep them busy even if the house has several house helps.
“Let us not produce children who cannot help themselves. We have done our part as teachers especially now with the CBC design. Teach children to programme their duties as well. Time to work, rest and do revision among others will greatly help shape their future,” she concluded.
