Parents urged to accompany children to school

Parents have been urged to escort their children back to school to enhance their safety as they resume learning for the 2020 third term amid coronavirus pandemic.

Rongo OCDP Peter Okiring called on parents to maintain their parental responsibilities even as learners travel back to school.

“It is the parents obligation to ensure their children arrive in their respective schools in good time and safely. They must therefore do the necessary to ensure they are able to arrange the means of transport for the learners in time and if possible to accompany them to school as a way of ensuring they report safely”, said Okiring.

Okiring challenged the parents not to assume the fact that some of the students are well conversant with the direction to their learning institutions but should also put in mind the possibilities of learners failing to report to school in time.

“Every child under the age of 18 years is a child therefore parents and guardians must remain strict on monitoring their movements and the kind of activities that they involve themselves in”, urged Okiring.

He warned that police will arrest students who will be found loitering the streets of Rongo and market places instead of heading straight to school.

The Rongo sub-county police boss reminded parents to ensure they bring back learners to school with adequate face masks for the whole term to help curb the spread of the coronavirus among students and teachers in schools.

“I urge teachers to carry thorough inspection on the belongings of the students as they report back to school to ensure illegal items aren’t brought into the institutions by the learners from home”, he said.
