Parents unhappy over arbitrary transfer of principals

Parents in Kisii County have asked the Ministry of Education to restrict the TSC from transferring teachers haphazardly.

Speaking during the handing over exercise at Itare Secondary School in Gucha Sub-county in Kisii by the outgoing principal Mr. Samson Otwere, parents praised the principal for the good work he did at the school to improve in results and infrastructure. They wished to retain him but lamented that their powers were limited.

“He did his work prudently but now the transfer has come from his employer and we have no power to retain him,” Said the BoM Chairman Dr. David Choti.

Otwere was transferred to Marera Secondary school in Homa-Bay County as he is replaced by Mr. Jared Ochieng.

He replaces the former principal of Marete Secondary who was interdicted by the employer for an unethical behavior he committed.

Commenting on the transfers, Kisii County TSC Director Mrs. Jayne Wambui Mwaniki said that teachers like any other civil service, were employed to work anywhere in the country.

“Teachers are civil servants who designated to work at any part of the country where the need for their services may arise,” she said.

The director added that she expected the principals to quickly settle at their new work stations to efficiently catch up with syllabus coverage.
