Parents have been advised to provide their children with proper nutrition as a way of enhancing absorption of education in school.
According to Elgeyo Marakwet County Health Department, the challenging economic times have seen learners miss nutritional value in their meals impacting their early education negatively.
Speaking at Chepkorio Health Centre during the launch of the county feeding sensitization initiative dubbed Malezi Bora, Health CECM Purity Koima said majority of children encounter delayed development milestones due to poor feeding schedules.
Koima said the initiative, organized by the county with support from partners including Nutrition International (NI), seeks to improve the health and nutrition of mothers and children seeing that they face challenges including stunting, wasting and malnutrition among children.
She added that the programme seeks to end these health challenges through her Afya Bora campaign adding that it will translate to school retention.
“We have decided to take such programmes where the people are because quality food translates to good mental growth of children hence boost grasp of learning in school,” she said.
The campaign will focus on expectant & lactating women, children under five and women of reproductive age.
The target groups were given nutrition supplements, went through training and counseling and de-wormed among other interventions.
