Rongo Sub-county Director of Education has called upon school administrators to invest in biometric security checks to help notifying parents on whenever the students go out of their respective learning facilities.

Mr. Dancun Odhiambo, the Sub-county Education Director noted that the system would ease efforts by both school administrators and parents to monitor and track the learners thus enhancing their safety and minimizing on their attempts to engage in illicit activities.

While speaking to Education News in his office, the Director urged parents to monitor their children over the short holiday and learn the kind of groups they are engaging in as a way of keeping them in track to instill good morals.

“I call on parents to work closely with school administrators to ensure the learners are able to stay and concentrate in their studies without any interactions. Parents need to communicate in time on how to remit payment of school fees in schools to ensure their children maximize on their stay in school and are able to perform well in the national exams,” said Odhiambo.

Odhiambo told parents to be keen on their children’s activities to minimize cases like early pregnancies among the school going girls and engagements in immoral behaviors that would halt or affect their attention in school and on education.

His sentiments were also shared by Rongo Deputy County Commissioner Kemutai Ngeny who also urged parents to understand that the government is putting efforts to recover the time wasted during the Covid-19 holiday and issue adequate support for the education sector.

“Instill good morals on the children to bring up responsible future productive citizens.

Have time with them and if possible exercise the habit of picking and dropping the children to and from school to limit on the possibility of the children being lured into other immoral activities such as drug abuse. We wish to get a report that the children report back to school safely after the ten days holiday,” noted Ngeny.

He however challenged the society saying it is the responsibility of a society to ensure they protect the children from the negative influence brought by social media platforms.

During a press briefing in his office the DCC noted that ten day is a short time for holidays and therefore parents should find time to sacrifice for the sake of blending and guiding their children both academically and morally before they can resume for the second term learning.
