A section of parents at Lugulu girls national school protest over the decision by the board of management to expel their daughters who are to sit for the Kenya certificate of secondary (KCSE)

The six girls were accused of allegedly inciting other their colleagues to participate in an illegal demonstration.

Speaking to the media in Bungoma, Sibalile Natembeya, an irate parent whose child fell a victim said they have invested much into their daughters both materially and financially.

“I am so bitter. My daughter had to protest because a colleague had been raped. By her complaining, she has be dismissed but the school has not given her the exit letter,” he said.

He called upon the ministry of education to move in swiftly and sort out the situation.
“The school is trying to protect its name, why should it happen at this particular hour where students are very busy revising to get good grades,” he added.

Early December last year, the form students took to the streets to protest alleged defilement of their colleague. The victim is said to have been defiled while taking a bath at Muliro Dormitory before going for morning preps.

She was rescued by a fellow student who appeared at the scene, forcing the alleged defiler to take to his heels. Other students who woke up following the screams could not establish who the man was.

The victim was immediately taken to the school’s clinic where nurses administered her first aid. The 306 candidates trekked for more than six kilometres from the institution to Webuye Police Station, demanding immediate arrest of the perpetrator whom they claimed was being protected by the principal.

The demo also prompted the school board of management to suspend five
members of the support staff for allegedly inciting students to
protest. The five who include two cooks, the school nurse, cateress, and the
store keeper.
