Parents protest over cutting of school trees

By Rosemil Oduor

Irate parents of Gikingi Primary School in Nyandarua stormed the institution protesting against the cutting down of trees by the administration.

The parents claimed they had agreed to have only five trees cut to facilitate the construction of a digital learning centre.

The headteacher James Gikunju, however, claimed the decision to cut down trees was made by the Board of Management and that some of the timber was sold to meet the schools’ financial needs.

Gikingi Assistant Chief Miriam Ngotho said the school did not get a permit to cut down trees and had no plan for replacing the trees.
