Hard economic times pushed many parents in Meru to go for second hand books.

According to Joel Kariuki a book seller in Meru town the parents could not afford new books.

“The high cost of living left some with no other option but to go for what they can afford,” he said.
Bonface Njue, a resident, said some of the books required in schools were not available in bookshops.
