Parents oppose suggestions to kill CBC

A section of Education Stakeholders now says CBC should not be scraped as proposed by some politicians.

Led by the Chairman of the Kenya National Parents Association Nicholas Maiyo, they say CBC is better than 8-4-4 since children do practicals.

“If we compare 844 and CBC, our children are better off since they are independent as they do things on their own without supervision. It is the best curriculum and should not be scrapped,” said Maiyo.

He was concerned that if the next government scraps the CBC, it will have reversed the gains made with its introduction.

“We better embrace CBC since over 600,000 of KCPE candidates usually get below D,” Maiyo added.

Kenya National Union of Teachers Eldoret West Branch Kipchumba Arusei said CBC is here to stay. All they needed was to make a few changes to make it more effective.

“CBC needs to be refined but not done away with it completely. Amendments should be seen after surveys are conducted to know where the problem lies,” he said, noting that in any curriculum development there are nine stages. Piloting was the stage that was skipped by the government.

Some politicians have suggested that the new system should be removed as it was expensive.
