Tensions flared at Upper Sagana Primary School in Kirinyaga County as angry parents staged a protest to stop the construction of a police post within the school compound. The project, funded by Ndia Constituency’s National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), was abruptly halted after parents forced workers off-site.
Led by PTA chairman Jeremiah Gikunju, the parents accused authorities of bypassing consultation protocols.
“We were never informed. No one asked for our input,” Gikunju said, adding that the school environment should remain free from intimidating structures.
“How can children learn under the shadow of armed officers?” one parent asked.

The demonstrators demanded that the Ministry of Education engage school board members before proceeding with any construction. They insisted that the safety and psychological well-being of learners must be prioritized.
In response, area MP George Kariuki dismissed the backlash, clarifying that the structure is not a full police station but a post meant to protect the school’s ICT center, which has suffered repeated vandalism. “This is a noble initiative,” Kariuki clarified
Despite the MP’s defense, parents remain firm in their opposition, warning that no construction will resume until proper consultations are held.
