Parents need better KCSE results, principals told

KCSE principals

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Busia County Director Charles Nyaumah has urged principals in the county to lay down strategies that will produce exemplary Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results that will satisfy education stakeholders especially parents.

“The current results are not good, much effort and a different approach is needed to ensure our schools perform better and more students join higher education institutions for further studies,” he said.

The Director, while addressing them at the Busia County Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) Workshop, said parents will be satisfied only if their children achieve good grades in the examination and that will be possible if teachers, students, parents and the administration are focused on improving academic standards.

He urged the principals to maintain professionalism and be extra vigilant during the examination period to curb cases of malpractice which tarnish the school’s name and the students themselves.

“This is possible if adequate strategies are put in place not only in form four but from form one,” he said.

Nyaumah also urged teachers to inject more effort into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects considering their weight in terms of students’ career choices.

Also in attendance were TSC Sub County Directors and other KESSHA officials.
