Most of the schools in Kisii County reopened for second term on Monday, May 13.
In Gucha Sub-county those travelling to boarding secondary schools converged at Ogembo town leading to congestion at the bus park until late hours.
The afternoon heavy down pour in the town caused more confusion as learners scrambled for shelter along verandahs of shops.
A few students who feared arriving in schools late took boda boda riders, paying double fare as the operators took advantage of the rain to charge more.
Ogembo town acting Chairman Samuel Onyari cautioned parents against releasing their children to school in the late hours in order to avoid and possible danger from floods and wrong people bent to mislead them.

“Let our parents take full responsibility of taking care of our children especially girls by escorting them to school for their security.
Survey by Education News noted that most affected students from St Angela Sengera and Magena Girls, Orogare Technical and Nyabigena Boys whose schools are in the interior from the town.
Parents thanked the Management of Olympic Premier schools who provided adequate transport for their pupils as they positioned their buses at strategic picking points and ferried the pupils to school.
