Parents in Kangema Constituency will now pay KSh1,000 per term for day secondary school education following a new plan unveiled by area MP Peter Kihungu. The initiative, set to take effect from the second term, introduces a fee cap of Ksh1,000 to all day schools in Kangema Constituencyat is aimed at easing the financial burden on households. Kihungu said he has consulted heads of Kangema day secondary schools to ensure smooth implementation and issued bursary cheques to reinforce the rollout.
Kihungu described the move as part of a broader strategy to ease the cost burden on households and keep learners in class.
Kihungu joins MPs across the Mt Kenya region who are revising their NG‑CDF education budgets to lower fees for day secondary schools, unveiling constituency programmes that echo Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro’s Masomo Bora initiative.

Lawmakers say the goal is to make day schooling affordable for families while sustaining quality through targeted support.
Kiharu’s Masomo Bora sets day school fees at KSh500 this year. MP Ndindi Nyoro said the initiative includes the provision of quality meals and revision materials to support learning outcomes, positioning day schools as a reliable, low‑cost option for families. The model has drawn attention from neighbouring constituencies, where MPs are now declaring fee ranges between Sh500 and Sh1,000 to align with the affordability target.
Other Mt.Kenya legislators who have also reduced school fees for day secondary schools in their constituencies include Githunguri MP Gathoni wa Muchomba, where parents of students will continue paying Sh500 in fees for the second year running, and Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi, who announced last week that learners in Mathira day schools will not pay any amount for school fees.
