Parents demand transfer of headteacher over alleged misuse of funds, poor performance

Parents with children at Nkubu Primary school in Imenti South Constituency, Meru County held demonstrations demanding the immediate transfer of the headmistress.

The irate parents accused the headmistress of alleged misuse of school funds, poor performance, high-handedness and misuse of power among other ills and have now vowed to withdraw their children from the school if she is not transferred as soon as possible.

While singing, holding placards and waving twigs, the demonstrating parents kicked off the protests early in the morning saying they are tired with her administration at the school.

“We are being forced to pay Ksh 8,500 every term despite it being a public school. Surprisingly, no receipt is issued upon payments leaving us with a lot of unanswered questions. This is a public school, why are we being forced to pay such a large amount of money?” posed a parent.

They said despite agreeing to pay the money, they have not been given the money’s agenda raising suspicion that the school head is using the money for her own personal benefits.

The parents regretted that the school performance had been deteriorating and attributed it to pupils being sent home for fees thus skipping classes.

They said this was the third time they were holding demonstrations but no action had been taken against the headmistress.

They noted that the headmistress had overstayed at the institution, alleging that some education officials may be colluding with her to continue staying at the school despite the deteriorating academic performance.

The parents also accused the area MP Shadrack Mwiti of ignoring the matter despite being fully aware of the issue.

“Our MP has failed us. Why has he kept silent all this long yet he knows what is happening on the ground. He should act now before it is too late,” another parent said.

Imenti South Deputy County Commissioner Mary Mwangi urged the parents to remain calm and promised to hold discussions with the sub county Ministry of Education officials to find a lasting solution.
