The parents of a Form Four student at Mwongori High School in Sotik, who reportedly left a school compound and mysteriously disappeared, have asked the Ministry of Education to intervene and help them get clear guidelines from the school to help them trace their son.
According to his mother Mercy Kwamboka, their Form Four son named Austin Chanua missed from school after differing with his teacher of Chemistry in class when he sought permission to answer a call of nature, at the washrooms but never returned until on May 20, when she received a phone call from the school about her missing son.
She narrated how she arrived at school accompanied by her husband and her sister but the school administration kept on treating them like strangers.
“We reached school but none was ready to tell us what happened, hence we decided to leave the school without anyone knowing,” she said.

Kwamboka said that her son’s colleagues at school told them that their classmate had not been at school since May, 14, contrary to reports from the office that the boy actually left the school on the May, 20.
“These two contradictory statements from students and teachers have left us in confusion,” said Chanua, the father to Austin.
He blamed the school administration for not reporting the matter to the police for assistance, adding that they reported the matter at Matutu police station who promised to investigate the matter.
Rebbeca Kerubo who identified herself as the maternal aunt to the missing boy told Education News that her parents have been spending sleepless nights since they received the surprising news about his disappearance from school.
She appealed to him (if he is safe anywhere) to make a phone call to the parents or any relative to prevent them getting stressed up.

“I ask him or anybody who might know his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or chief’s office for quick assistance.” She said
Kerubo who is a professional teacher blamed Mwongori High School administration for negligence and appealed to Nyamira Country Director Samuel Kega and his TSC counterpart Erick Magaki to hold the class of the boy, teacher on duty, the watchmen and the Principal responsible accountable for the missing boy.
“This school is headed by a chief principal I cannot understand why the education officers cannot respect the law and call for action to be taken towards the recovery of the missing student,” she said.
