The Parents Association has called on students to shun unrest and instead embrace dialogue to ensure the smooth running of learning activities in schools.
Kericho Chapter Chairperson Zablon Cheruiyot said the recent wave of unrest in schools had caused massive destruction and disrupted learning, stressing that the issues at hand could be resolved through talks.
“The causes of unrest can be addressed if only dialogue were given priority. Destroying school property only worsens the situation and derails the education of our children,” Cheruiyot told the press.

He noted that the destruction not only disrupts learning but also places a heavy financial burden on parents who are already struggling to keep their children in school.
“Education offices are open and ready to listen to students’ grievances. There is no need to cause destruction when dialogue can provide solutions,” he said.
Cheruiyot, who was accompanied by some officials, further urged authorities to carry out thorough investigations to establish those behind the unrest, warning against imposing blanket penalties on all students.
“It is wrong to punish everyone when some students were not involved in the destruction. Accountability must be placed on the culprits,” he added.
His remarks come as schools in Bomet and Kericho counties that recently reported unrest prepare to reopen.
